On the Fourth of July, Independence Day in the USA, I was in Bend, Oregon. It was very warm and brilliantly sunny. Some idiots had caused, by fooling around with fireworks, a serious power cut in the town for about two hours. But that did not stop the celebrations later that evening.
When I saw police officers on the streets of Bend I told them, in a friendly and positive way, that they should be proud of their town because it has a very good vibe, a pleasant feel to the place, ideal for a holiday resort area.
It was easy on Sunday morning. Breakfast was large and laid back.
