I have been to Bend and Sisters in the High Desert area, and I will be hated if I in any way cause more people to move there. There are bumper stickers that ask people not to move there.
Portland, that beautiful city on the Willamette, has arguably the best airport in the USA. Landing at PDX on a day when Mount Hood is clearly visible, and when the Cascades can be seen from the airplane window, well that's a magnificent experience.

Californians are moving north in search of greener pastures, more rain, cheaper property, no sales tax and low crime rates, in fact a better quality of life in many Oregon areas. It is perceived that these people are driving up property prices, exacerbating urban sprawl and spoiling the environment. You may agree, but as a foreigner it is not my place, one can argue, to comment.

We should feel for those in California who have been hurt by the wildfires, and they have lost loved ones, property, precious possessions and pension investments. The appeal of cooler climes must be in the minds in the midst of hellish conditions.
These wildfires are deadly. The loss of life is tragic. Horrendous stories of death and destruction have been revealed in the media. And it's not just in California .
