I read with interest the Sunday Times travel section's The Apple By Bike, written by Stephen Bleach. (Section 5, August 26, 2012.) It seems that Facebook is having technical problems with Stephen's page at the moment. At the end of the article it mentioned THE TOP CYCLE CITIES: Beijing. Berlin, Amsterdam and Miami. But no mention of Portland, Oregon! Why not? Was this article hastily put out in the silly season, with a lack of rigour and proper research? Lazy research in the holiday season, or should I say vacation time, the long vac.
Portland is known as America's Bicycle Capital!!! Miami is mentioned but not Portland, where the cops ride on bicycles.
And bikes are encouraged in the downtown area.
And the Max tram train has plenty of space for bicycles, and the buses are adapted to carry cycles at the front.

Downtown Portland by the Nike store. Portland is very bike and Nike conscious! |
